For the rappelling types, or people who just like hiking with some excitement, you can visit The Pinnacles near Hollister.
The park is a remnant from an old volcano, or I should say the western remnants as the eastern part is 200 miles further south on the other side of the Andreas Fault line.
If you take a trip to the top of these odd formations, expect some narrow paths and rope and pipe bannisters to keep you from falling off the mountain. Hence not suitable for people hard of walking - or children hard of obeying their parents.
